Bojan leaves FC Barcelona

After spending nearly his entire footballing life at FC Barcelona, Bojan Krkic says goodbye to his Club.

The Catalan forward, who was always one step ahead of his age in terms of skill and quality, leaves the Club with the distinction of being the all-time highest scorer in the Barça youth system.

During his four seasons on the first team (2007-2011), he scored a total of 26 goals.

Bojan made his first team debut under the orders of Frank Rijkaard at the age of 16, against Egypt’s Al-Ahly. He scored the team’s second goal against the Egyptian side. His first goal in an official match was scored on October 21st 2007, against Villarreal when he was only 17 years old. He became the youngest player in FC Barcelona history to score in a La Liga match.

Bojan was important in Rijkaard’s tactical schemes in the manager’s final year on the FC Barcelona bench (2007/08).

Despite his youth, he scored 12 goals from 48 appearances. But his role in the team became more discreet in the following three seasons. He was crucial to the team’s winning Copa del Rey bid in the 2008/09 season and in Barça’s La Liga winning run in 2009/10, as he scored important goals against Villarreal and Sevilla.

After his seven-goal haul in the 2010/11 season, Bojan was loaned out to Roma, then Milan, and then Ajax. He won the Eredivisie that season with the Dutch team.

Bojan bids farewell to his childhood Club with three La Liga titles, two Champions League medals, one Copa del Rey, one European Supercup, two Spanish Supercups and one Clubs World Cup.

Nike and FC Barcelona present the new kit for season 2014-15

The new shirt of the kit sports a crew neck collar and is entirely bright crimson.

On the back of the collar inside the neck is the Catalan flag the Senyera between FC Barcelona’s red and blue home colours, and this detail is repeated on the back of the collar, but with ‘Barca’ in blue and the club’s unique club font below it.

Inside the back of the neck is a blue pennant tab with the club motto: ‘Mes que un club’ (More than a club) and their foundation year of 1899.

The new shorts of the kit are bright crimson with a thin blue stripe along each side, while the new socks are bright crimson with a wide tonal stripe on the back.

While this new kit features Nike’s signature design details, it also offers players the very latest in performance innovation, kit technology and environmental sustainability.

Nike Dri-Fit technology draws sweat away from the body to the exterior of the shirts and shorts where it quickly evaporates. This helps players to perform at their absolute best by remaining cooler, drier and more comfortable.

The kits are made from recycled plastic water bottles. The shorts are 100 percent recycled polyester; the shirts are 96 percent recycled polyester, while the socks are 78 percent. Each kit is made using an average of 18 recycled plastic bottles, and over the last four years Nike has diverted almost two billion of these bottles from landfills to produce their kits, which is enough plastic to core 2,800 football pitches.

The new fit allows the body to move more naturally within the kit, and so effortlessly improves players’ comfort and performance.

Argentina will be in the final of the 2014 World Cup

Mascherano and Messi, together with their team, Argentina, became the second finalist of the World Cup after they defeated the Netherlands in a penalty shootout. The match, which didn’t open up until extra time, was decided from the eleven-meter mark.

In the first half, both teams studied each other and didn’t risk leaving themselves open at the back. An error could have unraveled the game and both teams preferred to try their luck at scoring the opener without leaving too much space for the other side.

Argentina’s team, with Messi leading the charge, had a clear chance to score through a free kick and the Netherlands tried to threaten Romero’s goal but were unsuccessful. The scoreboard at the end of the first 45 remained 0-0.

The start of the second half was similar to the first 45 minutes. With the rain falling on Sao Paulo, Argentina was the only team that threatened to score thanks to chance created by Lavezzi, but Higuaín was unable to send the ball to the back of the net. Van Gaal’s Netherlands team, on the other hand, had more of the possession, but they couldn’t breakdown the defensive web set up by their rivals.

Argentina was clearly led by Mascherano in extra time, it seemed as though the FC Barcelona player was everywhere. The Netherlands’ most dangerous player was Robben, who threatened to score on various occasions in the first 15 minutes.

Sergio Romero came up big in the shootout. He saved Vlaar’s attempt while Messi knocked in Argentina’s first. Messi's was followed by successful efforts from Garay and Kun.

Romero went on to save Sneijder’s penalty, which put Argentina up by two goals. Maxi Rodriguez stepped up to the spot and fired into the back of the net and sent Argentina to the finals of the 2014 World Cup.

FC Barcelona signs Luis Suarez

Luis Suarez will sign for FC Barcelona this summer. With a price tag expected to be in the range of €65 to €80 million, Suarez will become FC Barcelona’s second most expensive signing of all-time.

On the one hand, FC Barcelona will gain one of the best players in the world. On the other hand, Barça will reduce their bank balance considerably.

However, following the sale of Cesc Fàbregas and the anticipated departure of Alexis Sánchez, FC Barcelona may yet have another top up their sleeve. In a recent interview, FC Barcelona president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, confirmed that the club will step up their search for a centre-half, perhaps hinting at a deal for Borussia Dortmund defender, Mats Hummels, who scored the winning goal in Germany’s 1-0 quarter-final win over France at the Maracana last night.

At the moment, the focus will remain on Luis Suarez and his polemic move from Liverpool to FC Barcelona.

Today it was the premiere of the film 'Messi', which covers the life of the Barça superstar, and is directed by Álex de la Iglesia.

In an event held in Rio de Janeiro, the city that will host the World Cup Final in ten days time, the makers of the film showed clips from the movie for the first time.
