FC Barcelona, classified for the Spanish Cup Final

FC Barcelona, classified for the Spanish Cup Final
FC Barcelona has classified for the Spanish Cup Final, after knocking out Real Sociedad.

On April 19th , Tata Martino's team will try to win their 27th Spanish Cup Final in the history of the Club and reaffirm themselves, even more, as the team that has dominated this competition.

Barça will play their 37th Final against Real Madrid.

Barça will go into their fourth final in the last six years. In the 2008/09 season, they became Champions against Athletic Club Bilbao in Mestalla (1-4), in 2010/11 they lost to Real Madrid, in extra time (1-0) and in 2011/12 they repeated their triumph over Bilbao at the Vicente Calderón (3-0).

In these last six years they only failed to reach the Cup Final in 2010, when Sevilla knocked them out in the last 16 round, and last season, when they lost to Real Madrid in the semi.final.

So, Barça once again will face Real Madrid, two years after the last Cup Final played against each other. In the six Barça vs Madrid finals, each team have won 3 times.

The first Clasico in a Cup Final goes back to the 1935/36 season, and the latest, the 2010/11 season. Curiously, both Finals were played in Valencia. On April 19th,  the equality will be broken. More about FC barcelona spring camps in Canada.

Zubizarreta has confidence in Barça

Andoni Zubizarreta, who travelled with the 23 man squad, spoke to the media shortly before boarding the flight to Manchester.

He declared: “The first knockout match is never an easy game, and given the quality of the opponent this year, this promises to be a top quality match”.

The FC Barcelona sports director added that “teams of this level are outstanding not just because of what they can do as a unit, but also because of the capacity of individual players to solve situations”.

According to him, “we have to sense that we are Barça and that we have our own way of  nderstanding and playing football. We have never lost our confidence in Messi and he has proved himself time and again both in training and in matches.”

Zubizarreta was also asked about how much Barça’s whole season depends on the outcome of this match, and answered that “people forget that we have already won the Spanish Supercup this season. If we hadn’t won it, then that may have affected our whole season.

Our position in the league, qualifying for the cup final, all these things affect the outcome of the season, not just this match”. More about FC Barcelona summer camps.

Mingma Sherpa visits the Barça’s Museum

Mingma Sherpa, the first sherpa to climb the 14 mountains that climb above 8,000 meters, visited  FC Barcelona Museum and went on the Tour Experience, where he got the chance to revisit the biggest moments in FC Barcelona history and see the Camp Nou. Mingma Sherpa is a known Barça fan and he’s a big admirer of Leo Messi.

“Messi is a fantastic player and he’s very well known throughout the world. He’s very lucky to play for Barça and Barça is very lucky to have him,” explained Mingma Sherpa, who was very pleased with his Museum experience: “I never could have imagined a museum like this one, not even in my dreams. Barça is a very big club. Coming here and seeing this museum is very surprising for someone like me.”

In May 2011, Mingma Sherpa became the first sherpa to scale the 14 mountains that climb above 8,000 meters when he summited the Kangchenjunga (8,586 m), the third highest mountain in the world. On that occasion,  he was accompanied by the Catalan alpinist Óscar Cadiach, who was unable to complete his journey due to technical difficulties. Cadiach defines Mingma Sherpa as a “respected man in his village. They support him and they praise him for being their hero. He’s a different kind of Sherpa and very intelligent. At the age of 12, he lost his father and he started working by carrying 25 kilo packs up mountains.

After that, he got involved in expeditions, later he became a guide and finally he became a sherpa. His charisma is unique. I admire his simplicity and humility.”
